Man high on drugs nabbed for assaulting father

CEBU CITY – A 36-year-old man believed to be high on illegal drugs was arrested for assaulting his father inside their house in Barangay Inayawan here on Monday afternoon, Dec. 8.
Police identified the suspect as Ritchie Navarro Avenido.
Avenido asked for money from his father, Constantino Aduyon Amora, a 59-year-old fisherman to allegedly to buy shabu.
Constantino refused to give money and trouble broke out.
An irked Ritchie went wild and punched his father repeatedly. Not contented, Ritche grabbed his father by the neck, nearly choking him to death, police said.
Neighbors who heard the commotion rushed to the house of the Avenidos and pacified Ritchie.
Police were called and Ritchie was subdued by neighbors when lawmen arrived.
Constantino said that he could have died if his neighbors failed to intervene.
He said it was not the first time that he was assaulted by his son. He said there were several instances that his son would hallucinate due to illegal drug use.
Constantino recalled incidents that his son would suddenly run out of the house, claiming that he saw supernatural beings or “engkantos.”
