Three hundred persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City have been transferred to the Leyte Regional Prison (LRP), the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said.
In a statement, the Bucor said that the PDLs arrived at the LRP in Abuyog town on Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 9.
BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. stated that “the continued transfer of PDLs is aimed at alleviating overcrowding at the NBP and is part of a broader strategy in anticipation of the facility's planned closure in 2028.”
The BuCor said the 300 PDLs were escorted by a total of 75 corrections officers led by Chief Correctional Inspector Roberto Butawan and included members of the BuCor Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and medical personnel.
Earlier last Nov. 28, a total of 240 PDLs were transferred to the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF).
