K-drama 'Surely Tomorrow' premieres: 5 reasons to watch it
“Surely Tomorrow,” the new Korean series starring Park Seo-jun and Won Ji-an, premiered on Dec. 6 on Prime Video.
At a press conference in Seoul, the stars and director gave a preview of “Surely Tomorrow,” including the romance to come.
Director Lim Hyun-ook, joined by Park Seo-jun and Won Ji-an, teased emotional twists, surprising character arcs, and the kind of heart-fluttering chemistry fans have been craving.
“Surely Tomorrow” is about the intertwined lives of Lee Kyeong-do (Park Seo-jun) and Seo Ji-woo (Won Ji-an).
The two first fell in love in their early 20s, only to part ways. They reunited in their late 20s and gave romance another chance, but once again went their separate paths.
Years later, fate brings them together unexpectedly—Kyeong-do, now a journalist covering a sensational scandal, and Ji-woo, the wife of the man at the center of it.
Against the backdrop of public scrutiny and personal history, their story unfolds into a surprising third chapter.
The series will have new episodes released weekly in over 240 countries and territories, exclusively on Prime Video.
Here the the five reasons to watch “Surely Tomorrow”:
1. Park Seo-jun is back
The wait is over. Five years after his megahit “Itaewon Class,” Park Seo-jun returns to Korean TV in a grounded, emotionally rich role. Though he dazzled in “Concrete Utopia,” “The Marvels,” and “Jinny’s Kitchen,” fans have been eagerly anticipating his return to a heartfelt modern drama—and “Surely Tomorrow” delivers.
2. A dream team of hitmakers
With director Lim Hyun-ook (“King the Land,” “Reflection of You”) and acclaimed writer Yu Young-ah (“Divorce Attorney Shin,” “Thirty-Nine”), “Surely Tomorrow” promises polished storytelling, emotional depth, and scenes that linger long after the credits roll.
3. Bold new characters
Both stars step into roles unlike anything they’ve taken on before. Park Seo-jun introduced his character, “Kyeong-do is an entertainment journalist. He’s a consistent person who doesn’t change. He’s detailed, caring, very considerate, but also determined.”
The actor also talked about the challenge of taking on the role of a journalist, saying, “Our director was also a journalist, so I asked him a lot of detailed questions.”
About her character, Won Ji-an said, “Ji-woo is unpredictable, lively, and capricious. However, she also carries pain within herself. Through meeting Kyeong-do, she grows. My character undergoes a diverse range of changes. I think you’ll be able to see very different sides of her.”
She also talked about the challenge of portraying a character in their thirties for the first time, saying, There was some pressure regarding portraying different ages for my character. However, through having discussions, filming, and utilizing my imagination—I thought that this project would help me grow a lot as an actor.”
4. A romance told across time
Director Lim Hyun-ook revealed that the series unfolds through shifting timelines, capturing how love evolves across different seasons of life.
“The characters are seen in different periods of their lives. I think that how the different times in their lives show up in the series is very unique. It’s not chronological and the specific time period is not important. Rather than the time period being important, I think the weight of their relationship across each period is more important. I wanted to showcase the different seasons to show the differences in their relationship, so we had to film during all four seasons. For example, just by viewing Ji-woo, you’ll be able to tell which period she is in,” he said.
Being able to see the main leads in different times and how their feelings fluctuate and change will provide layered nuances to the storytelling.
5. The perfect romance for the season
As temperatures drop, “Surely Tomorrow” arrives as the perfect companion. Park Seo-jun said, “It’s considered a romance series, but I think it’s closer to a melodrama. Most people will be able to relate to many parts of the series. I think it’s closer to reality, and there are realistic moments. It is a great series to watch for the current season and weather.”
Won Ji-an added, “I think it’ll be fun for viewers to see whether it will have a happy or sad ending. It’s not predictable and there are many ebbs and flows in their relationship, so I think it’ll be fun to watch out for this. Since the weather is getting colder, I hope everyone can enjoy watching the series in the warmth of their homes.”
“Surely Tomorrow” streams exclusively on Prime Video every Saturday and Sunday starting Dec. 6.
