Malabon gov't strengthens environmental campaign through barangay cleanliness initiative

The Malabon City government strengthened its environmental campaign through the Search for Cleanest and Greenest Barangay 2025, recognizing barangays that demonstrated excellence in cleanliness, waste management, and community participation.

According to the city government, Barangay Potrero was named the top winner and received a P1 million cash prize, followed by Barangay Dampalit in second place with P500,000, while Barangay Bayan-bayanan ranked third and received P250,000.
Meanwhile, Barangay Tinajeros finished fourth with a P150,000 prize, and Barangay Hulong Duhat placed fifth with P50,000.
It added that the remaining 16 barangays were awarded certificates of appreciation for their participation.
A total of 21 barangays joined the initiative, which was launched earlier this year by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) to promote sustainable practices and strengthen community involvement in maintaining clean neighborhoods.
The local government said entries were evaluated by a panel from the Malabon Solid Waste Management Board, Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the Mother Earth Foundation.
Judging criteria included cleanliness and orderliness (40 percent), sustainability measures (25 percent), community participation (15 percent), innovation and creativity (10 percent), and documentation (10 percent).
Mayor Jeannie Sandoval led the awarding ceremony during the Christmas tree lighting at the Malabon City Landmark – Tonsuya People’s Park along P. Aquino Road in Barangay Tonsuya on Thursday, Dec. 4.

“Bilang bahagi ng ating mga programa upang mapanatili ang ganda at kalinisan ng mga komunidad at ng kalikasan, ating inilunsad noong magsisimula pa lang ang taong 2025 ang 'Search for the Cleanest and Greenest Barangay.' Ito ay isang kompetisyon kung saan nais natin mapalakas ang pagkakaisa at maipakita ang iba't ibang inisyatibo ng mga barangay sa pagsiguro ng kalinisan sa kanilang lugar (As part of our programs to preserve the beauty and cleanliness of our communities and environment, we launched the ‘Search for the Cleanest and Greenest Barangay’ at the start of 2025. This competition aims to strengthen unity and showcase the various initiatives of barangays in ensuring cleanliness in their areas),” Sandoval said.
“Tayo ay nagagalak na lumahok ang 21 barangay sa ating lungsod na nagpapakita na bawat isa sa atin ay may pakialam, at minamahal ang kalikasan at kapaligiran na siyang magsisiguro ng ating kaligtasan tuwing may kalamidad (We are pleased that 21 barangays in our city participated, showing that each of us cares for and loves our environment, which helps ensure our safety during times of disaster),” she added.
The mayor congratulated all the barangays and urged them to continue their efforts to maintain cleanliness across the city for the safety of every Malabueno household.
