The Malabon City government led the lighting of a 40-foot Christmas tree at the Malabon City Landmark - Tonsuya People’s Park along P. Aquino Road in Barangay Tonsuya on Thursday, Dec. 4.
Mayor Jeannie Sandoval, together with Vice Mayor Edward Nolasco, City Administrator Dr. Alexander Rosete, former Congressman and Philippine Red Cross–Malabon Chairman Ricky Sandoval, and members of the city council, led the ceremony.
Sandoval said the theme, dubbed “May Your Wish Come True,” symbolizes the collective dreams and aspirations of residents for a more developed, inclusive, and livable Malabon.
"Sa pamamagitan ng pagpapailaw ng Christmas Tree na ito, hindi lang natin sinisimulan ang pagdiriwang ng Kapaskuhan, kundi ating ipinapaalala sa bawat tahanang Malabueno na ang panahong ito ay panahon ng pagpapapala, pagbibigayan, pagmamahalan, pagpapasalamat, at pagkakaisa o bayanihan (By lighting this Christmas tree, we are not only marking the start of the holiday season, but also reminding every Malabueno that this is a time for generosity, sharing, love, gratitude, and unity or bayanihan),” the mayor said.
“Sa pagkakataong ito, ipinapaabot natin ang pasasalamat sa lahat ng mga indibidwal, organisasyon, at komunidad na nag-alay ng dedikasyon at suporta sa ating mga programa. Hangad ko ang maligayang pagdiriwang ng Pasko para sa ating lahat (On this occasion, we extend our gratitude to all individuals, organizations, and communities who have offered their dedication and support for our programs. I wish everyone a joyful Christmas celebration),” Sandoval added.
The event highlighted the Filipino tradition of celebrating Christmas with joy, unity, and gratitude, while also recognizing residents and volunteer groups that continue to support the city, particularly during disaster response and relief efforts.
The local government said 21 agencies and organizations took part in the ceremonial hanging of lanterns on the Christmas tree in recognition of their assistance during typhoons, floods, and fire incidents.
Among those recognized were the Philippine Red Cross–Malabon, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Philippine Air Force, NCRCON 1301st, Department of Education, various city offices, medical frontliners, barangay focal persons, and civic groups.
The City Environment and Natural Resources Office also awarded barangays that won the “Search for Cleanest and Greenest Barangay 2025,” an environmental campaign launched earlier this year.
Barangay officials, city workers, and residents also attended the event.
Rosete said the celebration aimed to bring families together and provide a space for the community to gather, celebrate, and strengthen bonds for a better future for the city.
"Ngayong darating Kapaskuhan at Bagong Taon, nawa ay mas palakasin pa natin ang pagkakaisa, partisipasyon, at pagmamahal sa ating pamilya at bayan upang mas maging maunlad pa ang ating lungsod sa hinaharap. Naririto lamang ang pamahalaang lungsod upang tumulong sa oras ng pangangailangan (This coming Christmas season and New Year, may we further strengthen our unity, participation, and love for our families and our city so that Malabon may continue to progress in the future. The city government remains here to help in times of need)," he said.
