Discayas' 'car importer' faces deportation -- BI

The arrested Chinese national who allegedly imported the vehicles of contractor spouses Curlee and Sarah Discaya will be deported, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said.

Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony M. Viado said the bureau will initiate a deportation case against Cao Cheng, 41, who was arrested by the Philippine National Police (PNP) last Nov. 27 in Makati City.

“Cao was found to have fraudulently acquired documentation using a different name, and this is a clear case of misrepresentation,” Viado said.

He warned that “no foreign national should use fictitious identities in transactions in the Philippines.”

Cao is currently detained at the Special Operation Division of the PNP’s Highway Patrol Group in Camp Crame, Quezon City but will be transferred to the BI’s detention facility in Taguig City.

Reports stated that the Discayas, who have been tagged in the “anomalous” flood control projects, acquired many of their luxury vehicles through Cao.

Viado said that the BI received information from Land Transportation Office (LTO) Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao that Cao was arrested for several violations including obstruction of apprehension and prosecution of criminal offender, illegal use of alias, false representation, and willful misrepresentation of material information.

He also said that the LTO provided documents that showed Cao has been misrepresenting himself using the name Martin Zhao in his LTO records.
