Two foreigners, who are wanted in their country, have been arrested in Paranaque City, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Thursday, Dec. 4.
The BI identified them as Chinese nationals Wu Huifu, 38, and his assistant Li Yong, 48, who were arrested last Dec. 2.
It said the arrest was done after receiving official information from the Chinese government that the two foreigners have arrest warrants issued in China for illegal casino operations.
In the case of Li who was allegedly Wu’s assistant, the BI said that he was ordered arrested by the Binzhou Public Security Bureau last January.
“Wu and his accomplices allegedly established multiple overseas online gambling platforms and enticed Chinese nationals through online advertising,” it said.
The bureau also said that Wu and his accomplices “illicitly profited by implementing excessive withdrawal requirements and manipulating gambling conditions to extend playtime and increase wagering frequency, ultimately causing participants to exhaust their funds.”
At the same time, the BI said that Wu previously worked for a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) but failed to leave the Philippines after the ban on POGOs was imposed.
Thus, Wu had been placed in the BI’s derogatory database, it added.
