Speed up the work! Marcos doesn't want a reenacted budget—Palace

President Marcos does not want a reenacted budget, so Malacañang has urged lawmakers to speed up the work.
"Bilisan ang trabaho. Dapat bilisan ang pag-aaral (Speed up the work. The study should be expedited)!" Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said in a briefing on Tuesday, Dec. 2.
The Palace official acknowledged that time is a factor in passing the proposed P6.793-trillion budget for next year, but reminded them that the President does not want a reenacted budget.
"Ayaw po ng Pangulo ng reenacted budget alam po natin iyan. So, hangga’t maaari bilis-bilisan natin although kahit kapos ang panahon sana po mas mapabilis natin (The President does not want a reenacted budget, we all know that. So, as much as possible, let’s speed things up, although even with limited time, we hope to make it faster)," Castro said.
Castro made the call after Senator Sherwin Gatchalian said the schedule for the passage of the 2026 national budget  slipped by a day after the fire forced the suspension of work in the chamber.
According to him, the Senate had originally planned to begin the period of amendments on Monday, Dec. 1, approve the budget on second reading the following day, and give members time to review the clean copy before third reading.
Gatchalian said the Senate now aims to complete second reading on Wednesday, Dec. 3; approve the budget on third reading on Tuesday, Dec. 9; and have the measure signed into law by Dec. 29 despite disruptions caused by a weekend fire.
