BuCor tells personnel: Stop criminal activities inside prison facilities
The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) on Monday, Dec. 1, appealed to its personnel to stop from engaging in criminal activities inside prison facilities.
The plea was aired by BuCor Deputy Director Al Perreras after one of the bureau’s personnel, Corrections Technical Officer Melchora Wong, was arrested last Nov. 26 in possession of two plastic sachets of shabu inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.
“Let us do good because we will go nowhere if we do evil,” Perreras appealed.
He assured that Wong will spend Christmas behind bars and that her license will be revoked.
“Sana’y magsilbi itong aral sa ating lahat na huwag na tayo pumasok sa ganitong masamang gawain (I hope this will serve as a lesson to all that we shouldn’t enter into illegal activities),” he said.
During the flag raising ceremony at NBP on Monday, Dec. 1, Benito Pancho, who caught Wong, was promoted to the rank of corrections officer 2 (CO2) from CO1.
“Pancho’s action not only reflects his loyalty to the bureau and the people he serves but it also sends a clear message that the safety and well-being of our facility, our personnel and the public remain above all else,” Perreras said.
He also said that Pancho’s vigilance “has protected lives and safeguarded the integrity of our institution through the discovery of illicit substances.”
