A total of 240 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City had been transferred to the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF), the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said on Sunday, Nov. 30.
In a statement, the BuCor said the transfer was done as part of the bureau’s decongestion program and in preparation for the closure of the NBP in 2028 for the planned conversion of its landholdings to a government center.
It said the 240 transferred PDLs were escorted last Friday, Nov. 28, by 80 corrections officers headed by CCInsp. Roberto Butawan, and composed of Special Weapons and Tactics team, medical personnel and escort group with augmentation from the Philippine National Police (PNP)of Muntinlupa City, PNP Manila, South Luzon Expressway Patrol, PNP Highway Patrol Group and Philippine Coast Guard.
Last Nov. 24, the BuCor transferred 500 PDLs from NBP to the Sabayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Oriental Mindoro.
Todate, the BuCor said that a total of 14,021 PDLs had been transferred to various operating prison and prison farms of the bureau nationwide.
