A shear line and the northeast monsoon (amihan) will continue to bring rains over parts of Northern Luzon on Saturday, November 29, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
PAGASA also noted that Severe Tropical Storm Koto (formerly “Verbena”)—now outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR)—continues to enhance rain-bearing systems affecting Palawan and surrounding areas.
As of 3 a.m., “Verbena” was located 345 km northwest of Pag-asa Island, Kalayaan, Palawan, packing maximum sustained winds of 95 km/h and gusts of up to 115 km/h.
The cyclone is moving northward at 15 km/h and is not expected to impact the country directly, but its trough will continue to influence weather conditions in western Luzon.
Northern Luzon: Shear line, ‘amihan’ to bring scattered rains
PAGASA said the shear line will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms over Apayao, Kalinga, Cagayan, and Isabela.
The state weather bureau warned of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon (amihan) will affect the Ilocos Region, Batanes, and the rest of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), bringing cloudy skies with rain.
These areas may experience moderate to, at times, heavy rains that can trigger flooding or landslides in high-risk zones, according to PAGASA.
Palawan: Trough of ‘Verbena’ to cause rains, thunderstorms
The trough of “Verbena” will continue to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Palawan, PAGASA said.
Residents are urged to stay alert for possible flash floods or landslides, especially in low-lying and mountainous areas.
Metro Manila, rest of Luzon: Warm, humid with isolated storms
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to easterlies.
Severe thunderstorms may also trigger localized flooding.
Rest of the country: Localized thunderstorms persist
The rest of the Philippines will have generally fair weather, although localized thunderstorms remain possible—bringing brief but intense rainfall that may lead to flash floods or landslides.
PAGASA said it will continue to monitor the prevailing weather systems and advised the public to stay updated on the latest forecasts, especially in areas vulnerable to heavy rains.
