Seven Filipinos, who were trafficked and forced to work in scam hubs in Myanmar, have returned to the Philippines, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Thursday, Nov. 27.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony M. Viado said the seven Filipinos arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Tuesday, Nov. 25, from Bangkok, Thailand.
“Victims were sold, tortured, and exploited by these big syndicates abroad. Do not be the next victim,” Viado warned.
He advised aspiring overseas workers to refrain from accepting unverified online job offers that promise high salaries in exchange for irregular travel arrangements.
He assured of the government’s continuous and unrelenting efforts to curb human trafficking, “but public vigilance remains essential.”
The seven Filipinos, four women and three men, are in their 20s and 30s who accepted job offerings posted on Facebook on work in Thailand for a monthly salary of P30,000.
