Bilibid prisons officer arrested for 'smuggling' illegal drugs -- BuCor
A female corrections officer was arrested for allegedly smuggling illegal drugs in the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.
Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. identified her as Corrections Technical Officer 1 (CTO1) Melchora Wong.
Wong has been preventively suspended pending the filing of criminal charges against her, Catapang said.
“These are the challenges that we have to face. We are not only guarding persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) but we also have to be vigilant against our own people,” he also said.
Catapang said that Wong was found in possession of two plastic sachets of methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu, that was discovered inside a pouch of bread during an inspection at Prison Gate 1 of the NBP’s Maximum Security Compound on Wednesday morning, Nov. 26.
He also said that 33 more plastic sachets of shabu were later found inside the dorm where PDL Reiniell T. Dizon stayed after it was found that Wong frequently visited the inmate inside the Bilibid hospital.
