Palace: People behind 'transition council' want to remove Marcos for own interests

Malacañang stressed that the people behind the "transition council" only have one goal—to remove President Marcos from office for their "own vested interests."
Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro made the statement, following the revelation of Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo "Ping" Lacson that he has thumbed down suggestions of a civil-military junta to supposedly reset the government amid public outrage over the anomalous flood control projects.
Castro welcomed Lacson's position on the issue, underscoring that attempts to change the leadership through a military-backed reset is unconstitutional.
"We welcome Sen. Lacson's straightforward and unambiguous reaction on that issue, given that the move to change the leadership through a military-backed reset violates our Constitution," Castro said on Sunday, Nov. 23.
"The people behind this so-called 'transition council' have only one goal— to remove President Marcos Jr. not for the country, not for the Filipinos, but for their own vested interests," Castro stressed.
Lacson has bared that he has received messages from some retired military officials, offering him to be part of a "civil-military junta" but refused to entertain them.
The senator pointed out that under the 1987 Constitution, the succession of leadership follows the President to the Vice President, to Senate President, and finally to the House Speaker.
He noted that nothing good can come out of such military-backed intervention.
