Singaporean businessman charged with rape of 16-year-old girl
A criminal complaint has been filed against a Singaporean businessman for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl in 2020.
Charged was Narwani Ricky Ravin who introduced himself as president of Mohan Customs Tailors based in Singapore. Ravin could not be contacted for comment as of posting time.
In her complaint-affidavit, the victim stated she decided to file the rape case “to seek justice for what happened to me” after having gained “enough courage and understanding of my rights.”
She said the rape incident took place in a hotel in Malate, Manila on Jan 27, 2020. She also said that Ravin was a friend of her mother.
At the time, she said she attended the birthday celebration of an acquaintance where Ravin, who was seated at the table beside her, introduced himself to her.
Late that night, she said “Narwani Ricky Ravin asked me to go to the connecting room because he wanted to show me something he brought from Singapore which he intended to present to my mother.”
She also said that “Narwani Ricky insisted that I enter the bedroom, and when I refused, he became angry.”
She added that Ravin “forcibly pushed me into the bedroom” after threatening her and saying “I’ll hurt you if you don’t go inside.”
Once inside the room, she said that Ravin allegedly locked the door, restrained her on bed, and proceeded to abuse her sexually despite her repeated objections.
After the rape inside the bedroom, the victim later told her mother what happened. “However, my mother initially rejected my narration,” she said.
After assuring that what happened was true, she said “my mother tried to call Ravin, but his number was unavailable.”
“We later learned that Narwani Ricky Ravin had already left for Singapore after the birthday party,” she added.
The victim said a witness, who issued an affidavit, saw her rushing out of the room “visibly distressed, crying, and trembling.”
She explained that the delay in the filing of the complaint was due to her youth and limited understanding of the legal processes when she was 16 years old.
