The Department of Education (DepEd) reaffirmed that education remains a top priority for the current administration, citing President Marcos’ recent visits to Albay and Pasig City as examples of the government’s commitment to learners’ welfare, disaster preparedness, and youth development.
In a statement issued on November 19, DepEd said that during his visit to Cararayan-Naga Elementary School in Tiwi, Albay, President Marcos, accompanied by DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara, emphasized support for communities affected by recent disasters.
“Whether in evacuation centers or national training grounds, the direction is clear—education, child welfare, and youth development remain at the core of government action,” Angara said.

Angara underscored the administration’s directive to accelerate relief efforts, reassess damaged school infrastructure, and provide psychosocial support to children who have experienced trauma.
DepEd also deployed learning kits to evacuation centers to ensure continuity of education.
“Mandato natin sa DepEd na tiyakin na ligtas ang ating mga mag-aaral, at nabibigay ang kanilang mga kinakailangan, lalo na sa panahon ng sakuna (It is our mandate in the Department of Education to ensure that our students are safe and that their needs are provided, especially in times of disaster),” Angara said.
“The President’s emphasis on the welfare of children and the continuity of education reinforces our work on the ground,” he added.
Angara also joined President Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman John Patrick “Pato” Gregorio, and Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Abraham N. Tolentino in Pasig City for the ribbon-cutting of the refurbished PhilSports Complex on November 19.
The upgraded facility features modernized dormitories, a redesigned Philippine Sports Museum, rehabilitated aquatic facilities, and enhanced PSC offices. These improvements aim to support high-performance athletes while expanding access to youth sports programs nationwide.
Angara highlighted the role of sports in holistic education, saying, “Sa loob ng maraming dekada, ang iba’t ibang sports complex sa bansa ang nagsilbing tunay na tahanan ng ating mga pambatong atleta (For many decades, the various sports complexes in the country have served as the true home of our national athletes).”
“With the country hosting the first-ever FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup starting this Friday, DepEd gives its full support to PSC and the Marcos administration in strengthening sports programs to uplift the Filipino spirit of discipline and excellence,” he added.
DepEd noted that these engagements reflect the administration’s integrated approach to education, combining disaster response, youth development, and infrastructure improvement.
