CEBU CITY – An ex-convict was killed in a shootout with police in Barangay Carreta here on Monday afternoon, Nov. 17.
Angelito Mendoza, 51, suffered bullet wounds in the body.
The Mabolo Police Station received a report past noon that an armed man was spotted in Carreta.
Police rushed to the area to check on the report. They spotted an armed man, who turned out to be Mendoza, in an interior portion.
Policemen approached Mendoza but he fled, triggering a brief chase.
He was cornered and drew a .45 caliber pistol that prompted the policemen to open fire.
Mendoza sustained bullet wounds and was taken to the Cebu City Medical Center where he was declared dead.
Police Major Eric Gingoyon, chief of the Mabolo Police Station, said the suspect was 37 when he was jailed over several charges.
