MATULLANO
ILOILO CITY – After nearly 20 years of various crimes against the state, a high-ranking leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) was arrested in Iloilo City.
The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) announced that its Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU) arrested Gaspar Robles Matullano, alias Ka Mayok.
The 67-year-old Matullano was the secretary of two different sub-groups of the NPA in Panay Island. He was said to have operated in Iloilo, Capiz, and Aklan provinces.
He was arrested on seven different warrants, including rebellion, murder, and use of explosives.
IPPO Director Police Col. Bayani Razalan said Matullano was listed as a National Most Wanted Person (NMWP).
Razalan lauded the IPPO and other arresting units.
“This was a decisive victory in our campaign to neutralize the remaining NPAs in Panay. We commend the bravery of our troops and our police,” said Major Gen. Michael Samson, 3rd ID commanding general.
