CEBU CITY – A state of calamity was declared here on Wednesday, Nov. 5, due to the devastation caused by typhoon "Tino."
The Cebu City Council approved a resolution seeking the declaration of a state of calamity during a special session.
The declaration was also made after the recommendation of the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CCDRRMC).
The City Council called on the Department of Trade of Industry to impose a price freeze on basic goods while the city is recovering from the typhoon.
The council cited Republic Act No. 7581 or The Price Act that automatically takes effect in areas under a state of calamity.
The declaration allows the city government to utilize ₱120 million from its Quick Response Fund (QRF) and ₱33 million from its Relief and Recovery Assistance Fund for immediate relief and rehabilitation operations.
The typhoon caused flash floods and landslide in several barangays in Cebu City.
Archival said at least 12 persons died in the city during the flooding.
In a statement, Archival appealed for help in the city’s recovery efforts.
“Cebu City needs your strength, your time, and your heart,” Archival said.
