Emphasizing that solving the country’s literacy challenges requires adequate and consistent investment to uphold every Filipino learner’s right to quality education, the Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday, November 4, renewed its call for the full and sustained funding of all education mandates.
In an official statement, DepEd said it is working closely with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to align resources, streamline functions, and prioritize foundational learning and literacy recovery.
“We are aligning resources, streamlining functions, and focusing on what matters most — foundational learning and literacy recovery,” DepEd said.
DepEd cited several reforms already underway, including the rollout of the revised K to 10 and Senior High School (SHS) curriculum, nationwide teacher training programs, and the establishment of the DepEd Principals Academy to strengthen school leadership and management.
Other key initiatives, the agency said, include expanded classroom construction and textbook procurement, enhanced education technology integration, and the deployment of additional administrative officers in schools to allow teachers to devote more time to teaching and student learning.
DepEd also assured that all ongoing efforts are geared toward making public investments in education more impactful and equitable.
“Together with all agencies, local governments, and partners, we are making sure that every peso invested in education truly counts for every Filipino learner,” DepEd added.
The call comes as the department continues to address challenges in literacy, classroom shortages, and teacher workload while implementing long-term reforms to improve learning outcomes nationwide.
