The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) on Monday, November 3, announced that it has placed all its Cebu chapters on full alert as Typhoon Tino (international name: Kalmaegi) moves westward and is expected to affect parts of the Visayas region in the coming days.
Following the directive of PRC Chairman Richard J. Gordon, all chapters in potentially affected areas have been instructed to mobilize volunteers, prepare emergency response teams, and ensure that lifesaving assets are ready for immediate deployment.
Over the weekend, the PRC Lapu-Lapu/Cordova Chapter held a preparedness meeting to discuss deployment strategies and logistics. Rescue boats, emergency vehicles, and other equipment have been prepositioned in anticipation of possible flooding and sea-related emergencies.
In Northern Cebu, which was recently hit by a magnitude 6.9 earthquake, PRC personnel and 143 volunteers have stepped up readiness efforts to ensure that resources and manpower are available for both earthquake- and storm-related response operations.
Meanwhile, the PRC Cebu Chapter in Central Cebu has confirmed that all vehicles, rescue tools, and emergency supplies are fully operational and on standby for possible mobilization.
“The Philippine Red Cross continues to work closely with LGUs, partners, and its volunteers to ensure that timely assistance is extended to affected and at-risk communities,” the PRC said.
Residents were advised to stay alert, monitor weather advisories, and follow safety instructions from authorities. For emergencies and urgent assistance, the PRC urged affected individuals to dial 143.
