Dondon Nakar, matinee idol of the 70s, passes away at 66

Dondon Nakar, a matinee idol of the mid-to-late 1970s, passed away quietly on November 1 at his home in Mandaluyong City. His wife, Candy Nakar, said the former actor died of cardiac arrest. He was 66.     
Dondon’s remains will lie in state at Mount Carmel Church in New Manila,  Quezon City on Nov. 5 and 6 from 2 to 9 p.m.     
In a statement, the Nakar family said: The family is saddened by their loss but also rejoices that Dondon is now with the Lord.      
Born Serafin Guillermo L. Nakar, Dondon rose to fame as a teenage idol in the batch that trailed Nora Aunor in the early 70s. He co-hosted a popular TV show, Apat na Sikat, together with Arnold Gamboa, Winnie Santos and Maribel Aunor.     
Branching out to acting, he acted in several memorable films, including Binhi, Menor de Edad, Ang Babaeng Hinugot sa Aking  Tadyang, and Nang Bumuka ang Sampagita. As a child actor, Dondon also played Ding to Vilma Santos’ Darna in one film.     
Dondon left behind a son, Nathan.
