Morning Sun Eatery, located at 120 J.P. Rizal, Project 4, Quezon City, has earned a place in the first Michelin Guide Philippines 2026, announced on Oct. 30. The modest karinderya received the Bib Gourmand recognition, awarded to restaurants that serve exceptional food at reasonable prices.
According to the Michelin Guide, Morning Sun Eatery serves authentic Ilocano comfort food using the familiar turo-turo style, where diners pick their dishes from the counter before they are brought to the table. The offerings are home-style and rich in flavor, including kilawin, sweet pork skewers, pinakbet, and a standout laing made from taro leaves simmered in coconut milk. Each dish pairs perfectly with rice, capturing the essence of traditional Filipino cooking.
This spot has long been a favorite among Quezon City residents. In the late 1990s, it was already known for its barbecue and isaw. Locals remember how PBA players and actors would occasionally drop by after games or shoots. Despite its humble location, it was not unusual to see sports cars parked out front, a quiet sign of its loyal following.
The Bib Gourmand recognition confirms what regulars have known for years. Morning Sun Eatery remains one of the city’s must-try dining spots, where good food is served with honesty and heart.
