Newly appointed National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Officer-in-Charge Angelito DLP Magno has urged the bureau’s officials and personnel to abide by the law and “make ethical decisions.”

Magno was sworn in as NBI OIC last Tuesday, Oct. 28. He took over the top NBI post as OIC from then director Jaime Santiago whose resignation had been accepted by President Marcos.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Oct. 29, the NBI said that OIC Magno reminded officials and employees that they can demonstrate their loyalty to the country “through sincere and genuine service.”

It also said that Magno expressed confidence that “the men and women of the NBI are capable of rebuilding public trust in the government.”

“It is OIC Magno’s vision to renew the esprits de corps (camaraderie) within the institution, to preserve the institutional knowledge, and reinforce the investigative capacity of the Bureau in order to ensure the public of a quality service,” the NBI said.

It added that Magno’s extensive service record, breadth of experience, and tested judgment uniquely position him to lead the NBI as the principal Investigative arm of the Department of Justice and as a strong partner of the government in advancing justice, law enforcement, and institutional modernization.

Magno joined the NBI in 1991 and rose through the ranks to become special investigator, investigation agent, head agent, regional director and assistant director prior to his designation as OIC.

Under Magno’s leadership, the NBI said that “the bureau achieved major milestones, among them the interception of P3.8 billion worth of illegal drugs in Pampanga, the successful pursuit of the Degamo-Teves murder cases, the crackdown on falsified civil registry documents used by foreign syndicates, the dismantling of the Socorro Bayanihan child exploitation network, and the Investigation into the MT Princess Empress oil spill which held liable both government officials and private corporations.”
