FULLY-GROWN marijuana plants are destroyed in Barangay Licungan, Sugpon, Ilocos Sur on Friday.
CAMP DIEGO SILANG, San Fernando City, La Union – Marijuana valued at P22.6 million was destroyed in eradication operations by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and police in the mountainous areas of Ilocos Sur and La Union from Oct. 23 to 25.
Police Brig. Gen. Dindo R. Reyes, Police Regional Office-1 (Ilocos) director, said operating troops discovered 37,800 fully grown marijuana plants valued at P7.5 million in seven plantation sites with an area of 6,100-square meters in Barangay Licungan, Sugpon, Ilocos Sur on Saturday.
PDEA Region 1 Director Benjamin G. Gaspi added that 40,800 fully-grown marijuana plants and 20,000 marijuana seedlings in nine plantation sites with a total land area of 6,600-square meters were found in a remote area in Barangay Licungan, Sugpon, Ilocos Sur worth of P8.1 million on Friday.
Authorities destroyed 11,300 fully grown marijuana plants and 2,830 marijuana seedlings worth P2.3 million in a 1,872-square meter plantation in Sitio Manaba, Barangay Tubaday, Santol, La Union on Thursday.
Also on Thursday, 18,500 fully grown marijuana plants and 1,250 marijuana seedlings valued at P3.7 million were discovered in five plantations with a land area of 3,000-square meters, in Barangay Licungan.
All uprooted marijuana plants and seedlings were documented and burned on-site with samples collected for evidentiary purposes.
Gaspi commended operatives for their dedication and coordination with law enforcement counterparts.
