President Marcos’ Cabinet will meet on Saturday, Oct. 25, to discuss the possible voluntary disclosure of their Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN), Malacañang said Friday.

The move comes after President Marcos earlier said he would abide by the Ombudsman’s new policy lifting restrictions on public access to SALNs.

In her press briefing, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro, however, clarified that no final decision has been made yet on whether Cabinet members — including the President himself — will publicly release the said document.

“Pag-uusapan po ito ng Cabinet members bukas po. Magkakaroon po ‘ata sila ng pagpupulong (Cabinet members will discuss this tomorrow. There will be a meeting),” she said.

“Tingnan po natin kung ano po ang nararapat (Let’s see what is proper),” she answered when asked if President Marcos would follow the example of several lawmakers who voluntarily disclosed their statements.

Despite the lack of available information, Castro said details of the Cabinet’s discussions may be available by Monday, once the meeting concludes.

“Magmi-meeting pa lang po sila. Siguro tingnan po natin, baka sa Lunes ay makapag-report ako kung ano po ang napagmitingan nila tungkol sa kanilang SALN (They’re only set to meet. Maybe by Monday, I can report what they discussed regarding their SALNs),” she said.

She declined to speculate on the outcome, noting that she is not part of the meeting. President Marcos will also not be part of the discussion.

“Hindi ko masasabi kung good as yes kasi sila pa ay magmi-meeting at sila po ang magdedesisyon dito (I can’t say it’s as good as yes because the Cabinet will still meet and decide on it),” she said.

“Ito ay natanong natin kung darating iyong time na maaari silang magbigay ng kanilang SALN voluntarily at iyon nga raw po ang pag-uusapan nila bukas (I asked whether officials may voluntarily release theirs — and that’s what they’ll be discussing tomorrow),” she added.

President Marcos previously said he supports the reinstatement of earlier procedures that made it easier for the public to access officials’ SALNs — rules that were later restricted under the previous administration.

The President said he was “quite surprised” to learn that obtaining copies of SALNs had become “almost impossible,” and vowed to comply with whatever the Ombudsman decides on the matter.

The Ombudsman, in mid-October, lifted the restrictions on public access to the wealth disclosure documents of government officials and employees, citing transparency and accountability.
