A Chinese national has been arrested in Makati City for “selling fake Philippine peso bills.”
In a statement, the NBI identified the suspect as Deng Lin who was arrested during an entrapment operation at a mall last Oct. 21.
After his arrest, Deng was charged before the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office with illegal possession and use of false treasury or bank notes and other Instruments of credit under the Revised Penal Code (RPC) and violation of Republic Act No. 10175, the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
The NBI said it acted on information that a Chinese national was selling counterfeit Philippine peso bills online.
With the help of an informant, the NBI said it established communication with Deng and arranged a transaction with him.
Is said that Deng was arrested in the act of selling 100 fake pieces of both the old and the new version of the P1,000 bills for P20,000 and P33,000, respectively.
