BI arrests 12 Chinese nationals in Tacloban City for working 'without visas'
Twelve Chinese nationals have been arrested in Tacloban City for working for an internet service provider without appropriate visas, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said.
Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony M. Viado said the foreigners were arrested last Oct. 15 by the BI’s Intelligence Division and Regional Intelligence Operations Unit 7 in coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Viado said the BI has been monitoring the movements of the foreign nationals since February and the arrest was made following confirmation of the presence of illegal aliens in Tacloban City.
Those arrested have been flown to Manila and are now detained at the BI’s facility in Taguig City.
Viado said: “Our operations are not limited to Metro Manila. We continue to work closely with local law enforcement and the intelligence community to locate and apprehend illegal aliens hiding in other regions of the Philippines.”
