The local government of Marikina has suspended classes at all levels in both public and private schools on Oct. 13 and 14 to observe a health break, after some schools reported an increase in flu and flu-like illnesses.
Mayor Maan Teodoro on Sunday, Oct. 12, made the order upon the recommendation of the City Health Office as a precautionary measure to assure the safety of students and teachers.
“Ang hakbang na ito ay isang preemptive measure upang mapangalagaan ang kalusugan at kapakanan ng ating mga mag-aaral, guro, at kawani ng paaralan upang makaiwas sa pagkalat ng sakit at mabigyan ng pagkakataong makapagpahinga ang lahat (This measure is a preemptive step to protect the health and well-being of our students, teachers, and school personnel, prevent the spread of illness, and give everyone the opportunity to rest and recover),” the mayor said.
The local government said that while students are on health break, extensive cleaning and disinfection will be conducted in schools to ensure a safe and orderly return to classes.
Meanwhile, it advised the public who are feeling unwell to stay at home and immediately consult a doctor.
