The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) immediately mobilized its volunteers after a 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Davao Oriental on Friday, October 10, prompting quick evacuations and first aid assistance to affected residents.
According to the PRC, both Red Cross and Red Cross Youth volunteers in Davao Oriental acted without hesitation upon feeling the strong tremors.

Some youth volunteers, who were in the middle of their classes, promptly assisted in evacuating people and providing first aid to those who fainted or were overcome by fear during the quake.
The PRC Davao Oriental Chapter is coordinating with local government units (LGUs) and other authorities to assess the extent of the damage and determine where additional support is needed.
PRC Chairman Richard J. Gordon commended the swift and selfless actions of the volunteers.
“This is the spirit of the Red Cross — always ready, always there, and first to act for others,” Gordon said.

Other PRC chapters across the Davao Region remain on heightened alert to provide immediate relief and assistance to affected communities.
The PRC also reminded the public to stay vigilant, as aftershocks remain possible. It advised residents to avoid structures with visible cracks and to call Hotline 143 for immediate Red Cross assistance.
PRC said it continues to coordinate with national and local agencies to ensure timely aid delivery and to monitor areas that may have sustained damage from the earthquake.
