Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. hailed the appointment of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla as the country’s Ombudsman.
In a statement, Catapang said the Office of the Ombudsman (OMB) stands as a cornerstone in protecting citizen’s rights and fostering integrity within the government.
“I have no doubt that under Ombudsman Remulla’s stewardship, these ideals will flourish, fostering a renewed sense of trust and confidence in the processes that govern our society," he also said.
Remulla was appointed Ombudsman by President Marcos on Tuesday, Oct. 7, to serve a fixed term of seven years.
Remulla said he will assume his new post on Friday, Oct. 10.
In the meantime, Justice Undersecretary Fredderick A. Vida will be acting secretary of the Department of Justice pending appointment by the President of Remulla’s replacement.
Vida, who once served as the mayor of Mendez-Nuñez in Cavite and president of the Mayor’s League of Cavite, heads the DOJ’s Finance, Administrative Service, and Personnel Cluster.
