Persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City now have access to online medical consultations, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said on Tuesday, Oct. 7.
The online consultation was organized by the NBP hospital’s HIV/AIDS Core Team last Sept. 30 in partnership with the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) and the Muntinlupa City Health Office (CHO) to strengthen access to quality healthcare services for PDLs through digital medical consultations, the BuCor said.
It called the teleconsultation hub as “a significant milestone in delivering responsive and inclusive health interventions inside prison facilities.”
It said that by leveraging telemedicine, the program ensures continuity of care, supports HIV treatment and management, and reinforces the shared commitment of the BuCor, RITM, and the CHO in promoting health equity for PDLs.
During the inauguration, the BuCor said that Dr. Arthur Dessi E. Roman, head of RITM’s Medical Department, assured the institute’s commitment “to supporting innovative health solutions for vulnerable populations.”
C/SInsp. Evangeline Rabara, deputy camp commander of NBP’s Maximum Security Compound called the teleconsultations hub “a model for future health programs.”
