Signal No. 2 raised over 7 Luzon provinces as 'Paolo' further intensifies
PAGASA
Seven Luzon provinces were placed under Signal No. 2 on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 2, as Tropical Storm Paolo (international name: Matmo) continued to strengthen while moving over the Philippine Sea, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
As of 4 p.m., the center of Paolo was located 480 kilometers (km) east of Infanta, Quezon, or 480 km east of Baler, Aurora.
It was packing maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 105 kph, and moving west-northwestward at 15 kph.
PAGASA said Paolo may intensify into a severe tropical storm tonight or early morning on Friday, Oct. 3, before making landfall over southern Isabela or northern Aurora.
However, reaching typhoon category before landfall is not ruled out.
In anticipation of strong winds from the storm, PAGASA raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals No. 2 and No. 1 over parts of Luzon.
