A total of 1,699 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) had been released from July 31 to Oct. 1 from the prison facilities of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) nationwide.
In a statement, the BuCor said that most of those released were 1,289 PDLs whose maximum sentences had expired.
Also released were 202 PDLs who had been acquitted of their criminal charges, 41 who had been granted probation, 130 who had been paroled, 35 whose petitions for habeas corpus had been granted, and two who had posted bail.
Of those released, 724 were from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City; 97 from the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City; six from CIW Mindanao; 194 from Davao Prison and Penal Farm; 215 from Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm: 130 from Leyte Regional Prison; 180 from Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm; and 153 from San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm.
From July 4 to July 30, BuCor released a total of 736 PDLs.
