CEBU CITY – The death toll and infrastructure damage in the Cebu earthquake continue to rise.
Authorities in the province on Thursday, Oct. 2, confirmed that the death toll from the 6.9-magnitude earthquake went up to 73.
Ainjeliz “AJ” Orong, Capitol public information officer, said infrastructure damage in the fourth district of Cebu has ballooned to P3 billion.
The earthquake on Tuesday night, Sept. 30, was felt across Cebu but the fourth district was the hardest-hit with the epicenter located in Bogo City.
Orong said the amount represents infrastructure damage in Bogo and the towns of Bantayan, Daanbantayan, Madridejos, Medellin, San Remigio, Santa Fe, Tabogon, and Tabuelan.
Excluded in the figure is the amount of damage in Sogod and Borbon, two towns that are not part of the fourth district but were also affected by the quake.
Several public and private buildings, roads, and ports sustained significant damage, Orong said.
Of the total fatalities so far, 33 are from Bogo while 22 are from San Remigio and 12 from Medellin.
