The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) on Wednesday, October 1, issued an emergency appeal for donations and support after a magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck near Bogo City, Cebu, leaving families displaced, roads blocked, and hospitals in urgent need of assistance.
The PRC stressed that its resources are stretched thin as it continues to respond to multiple emergencies—including Super Typhoon Nando, Typhoon Opong, and the Taal Volcano unrest—on top of the Cebu earthquake.

“We cannot do it alone,” the PRC said in its appeal. “Your support means hot meals, medical care, blood supply, shelter, and hope for families in Cebu,” it added.
The public is encouraged to send help through official PRC donation channels or scan the QR code provided by the organization.

Why donations are urgently needed
“Our kababayans in Bogo City and nearby areas are shaken and struggling — their homes cracked, roads blocked, and lives disrupted,” the PRC said.
It added that teams are on the ground, deploying ambulances, food trucks serving hot meals, blood supplies for hospitals, and volunteers to provide life-saving aid.
Donations will directly fund:
- emergency shelters for displaced families
- hot meals and clean water for survivors
- blood supply and medical care for hospitals
- logistics support for rescue and relief operations
The PRC assured the public of transparency and accountability in all its humanitarian operations, underscoring its commitment to stand in solidarity with communities struck by disasters.
PRC Chairman and CEO Richard J. Gordon said the organization is working around the clock to deliver life-saving assistance to affected areas.
PRC’s emergency response in Cebu
Immediately after the earthquake, the PRC deployed two ambulances for emergency medical transport, a food truck serving hot meals to evacuees, two Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment (RDANA) teams, two Emergency Response Units (ERU), and volunteers and medical staff to assist injured individuals.
So far, the PRC reported that 62 people have received medical treatment, while blood units from the PRC Eastern Visayas Regional Blood Center were delivered to the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Bogo to support patients in urgent need of transfusions.
