Philippine Red Cross provides medical aid, relief after Cebu hit by M6.9 quake

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) on Wednesday, October 1, announced that it has deployed medical and emergency response teams after a magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck near Bogo City, Cebu, on Tuesday night.
PRC Chairman and CEO Richard J. Gordon said staff and volunteers were immediately mobilized to assess the damage and assist affected communities.
“We already have our staff and volunteers on the ground, assessing the needs of affected communities,” Gordon said in a statement. “We remain in constant communication with our team and RC143 volunteers to ensure that reports reach our Operations Center immediately so we can deliver timely humanitarian assistance,” he added.
As of 10 a.m., the PRC reported that it had deployed two ambulances, a food truck, two Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment (RDANA) teams, and two Emergency Response Unit (ERU) teams. At least 62 individuals have been treated for injuries.

The PRC noted that its operations in Cebu are being conducted alongside ongoing responses to Super Typhoon Nando, Typhoon Opong, and the Taal Volcano unrest.
The humanitarian organization urged the public to remain vigilant and prioritize safety. For emergencies, residents may contact the Red Cross Hotline #143.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the earthquake struck at 9:55 p.m. on September 30 with an epicenter located 21 kilometers northeast of Bogo City. The tremor, initially recorded at magnitude 6.7, was later upgraded to 6.9.
