Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla on Tuesday, Jan. 7, assured that the Philippines will be implementing stricter border control measures this year.
"We vow to intensify our border control efforts this year so expect stricter measures to be imposed in all entry and exit points throughout the country," Remulla said in a statement.
Remulla issued the commitment after the Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported that it has arrested a Japanese fugitive who is wanted in his country for scamming a compatriot of approximately 3 million yen.
"PH is no haven for international criminals, and this is my final warning to undesirable aliens who may attempt to push their luck in our country, you have no place here," he declared.
The BI had reported that its operatives arrested Japanese national Yokota Tetsuya in Binondo, Manila last Jan. 2.
“Reports reveal that Tetsuya and his accomplices conned a fellow Japanese by making a fraudulent call about the right to enter a nursing home which duped the latter into giving 2.75-million yen,” said the Department of Justice (DOJ).
The DOJ said the Japanese national who remains detained with the BI will be deported and blacklisted from returning to the Philippines.
