"Fake" products bearing the trademark of a popular fashion brand worth P42 million were seized by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Pasay City.
In a statement, the NBI said the suspected counterfeit products bearing GUCCI trademark were seized during an operation conducted by operatives of the NBI Intellectual Property Rights Division (NBI-IPRD) last Jan. 21.
“The said operation resulted in the seizure of 1,675 pieces of counterfeit GUCCI products with an estimated value of P42,000,000,” it said.
NBI Director Jaime B. Santiago lauded the NBI-IPRD for the successful operation as part of efforts in stopping the proliferation of counterfeit products.
The NBI said the counterfeit products were seized from the Stratum Merchandising in Pasay City during the implementation of search warrants for trademark infringement under Republic Act (RA) 8293, the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.
“The operation stemmed from the complaint filed by the authorized representative of GUCCI as regards the increasing number of fake products bearing GUCCI trademark,” it also said.
