Marcos honors Gloria Romero: A great lady with the dignity of a true star

Gloria Romero, one of Philippine cinema's brightest icons, was "a great lady with the dignity of a true star," President Marcos said.

In a statement on Monday, Jan. 27, Marcos paid tribute to Romero who passed away on Saturday, Jan. 25 at the age of 91.

'I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of one of Philippine cinema's great icons," he said.

The President recalled he first met the Filipino actress on the set of "Iginuhit ng Tadhana." He has since admired the work of Romero.

"I first met Gloria Romero on the set while filming Iginuhit ng Tadhana, and have been an admirer of her work as an actress ever since. She was always a great lady with the dignity of a true star," Marcos said.

He also said that the Philippine cinema will never forget her.

"Not just a brilliant artist but a very fine person, the world of Filipino cinema and all of entertainment will never forget her," the Chief Executive said.

Having a career that spans 70 years, she has appeared in over 250 motion pictures and television shows.

Some of Gloria's best known works were for the movies include Dalagang Ilocana (1954), Nagbabagang Luha (1988) and Tanging Yaman (2000).
