Gloria Romero, one of the major stars of the first Golden Age of Philippine Cinema, passed away on Jan. 25. She was 91.

Gloria's death was confirmed to ABS-CBN News by her only daughter, Chef Maritess Gutierrez. The movie icon passed "peacefully" in her sleep, she said.

The wake will be held at the Arlington Memorial Chapel in Quezon City.

"In this time of loss, our family deeply appreciates the support, prayers, sympathy, all the lovely messages and heartfelt condolences that we've received. She will surely be missed dearly," Maritess wrote on social media.

Heartfelt condolences flooded social media as fans worldwide came together to bid a poignant farewell to the beloved movie queen. 

Tributes and nostalgic memories were shared, highlighting her remarkable contributions to cinema and the indelible mark she left on the hearts of her audience. 

Many expressed gratitude for her iconic performances and the joy she brought into their lives.

Born in Denver, Colorado, on Dec. 16, 1933, to a Filipino father and American mother, Gloria started her career in the late 1950s, initially working as a model before transitioning into acting.

Gloria is one of Philippine showbiz's most respected and enduring figures. She has had a remarkable career spanning several decades, with her work spanning television and film.

Having a career that spans 70 years, she has appeared in over 250 motion pictures and television shows.

Some of Gloria's best known works were for the movies include Dalagang Ilocana (1954), Nagbabagang Luha (1988) and Tanging Yaman (2000).

In February 2024, she was honored with a special tribute by her friends and fellow actors, many of whom are renowned movie stars, in celebration of her 90th birthday.

The event, masterfully organized by Romero’s close friend Daisy Romualdez, brought together a diverse group of attendees, including veteran actors and actresses, renowned singers, influential lawmakers, industry colleagues, and cherished friends at the Manila Hotel.

They all gathered to honor and celebrate the remarkable legacy, success, and life of the beloved movie queen. 

The atmosphere was filled with nostalgia and admiration as stories, memories, and heartfelt tributes were shared, highlighting not only her contributions to the film industry but also the profound impact she had on those around her.
