A man was arrested while 10 women, two of them minors, were rescued by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) during a "sex trafficking operation" in Naga City.
In a statement, the NBI identified the arrested person as Marjohn Lanera Boragay with aliases "Baks" and "Bella."
Boragay was arrested during an entrapment operation conducted by operatives of the NBI Naga District Office (NBI-NADO) at an apartelle in Barangay Bagumbayan last Jan. 14, the NBI said.
“The operation also resulted in the rescue of the ten (10) trafficked victims, two (2) of whom were found to be minors after they underwent dental examination,” it said.
After the arrest, the NBI said that Boragay was presented for inquest before the Naga City Prosecutor’s Office for violating Republic Act 10364, the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012.
It also said that the two rescued minors were turned over to the City Social Welfare Development (CSWD) of Naga City for appropriate care and counseling.
“The operation stemmed from an information that certain individuals are involved in sexual exploitation of women including minors in Naga City in exchange for monetary consideration,” the NBI said.
“In response, operatives of NBI-NADO conducted verification and surveillance operation, which confirmed the veracity of the information and revealed that a certain Baks/Bella was offering minors for prostitution,” it added.
