A person deprived of liberty (PDL) died and two other prisoners were hurt during a stabbing incident early morning Thursday, Jan. 2, at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said.
A report submitted by NBP Acting Superintendent, Corrections Chief Inspector Roger Boncales stated “the incident happened 7:15 a.m. this morning (Jan. 2) at Gate 1-A, Quadrant 4 of Maximum Security Camp of the NBP.”
The BuCor withheld the names of those involved in the incident until their families have been duly informed.
“This approach emphasizes the Bureau's commitment to maintaining dignity and respect for the families of the PDLs affected by this unfortunate event,” it said.
With the incident, the BuCor said it directred the superintendents of all operating prison and penal farms (OPPFs) “to take precautionary measures to ensure that no retaliation will transpire at their respective jurisdictions….”
“To prevent any untoward incident while the incident is being investigated, the Bucor Headquarters directed all superintendents of operating and prison farms to take precautionary measure at their respective OPPFs to ensure the safety of both PDLs and staff,” it said.
