Guidelines on registry of child sex offenders out soon -- DOJ

The government, led by the Department of Justice (DOJ), will soon come out with the guidelines on the Blacklisted Aliens and Child Sex Offenders Registry.

In a statement, the DOJ said the registry guidelines will safeguard children and ensure that the Philippines will never be a sanctuary for child sex offenders.

DOJ Undersecretary Nicholas Felix L. Ty said: “We stand firm in our resolve to protect the future of our children and uphold justice."

The DOJ said a technical working group (TWG) held its first meeting last Jan. 14 in Manila to refine the draft guidelines.

“The updated draft will play a key role in curbing OSAEC (online sexual abuse and exploitation of children) and CSAEM (child sexual abuse and exploitation materials) by restricting the entry of known offenders into the country and enhancing the government's response to these crimes,” it explained.

It said the TWG meeting was done in coordination with the National Coordination Center against OSAEC and CSAEM (NCC-OSAEC-CSAEM).

“The meeting brought together key representatives from various government agencies and partner organizations, emphasizing the importance of a unified, multi-sectoral approach to safeguard children from online harm,” it pointed out.
