MOVIEGOER: Vic Sotto’s lesson, Gerald’s reinvention

From that innocent, little-boy-blue look of the early 2000s, Gerald Santos has turned bold and daring with a new image and a new sound to match.

He’s mounting a major concert called Courage on Jan. 24 at the SM North EDSA Sky Dome while his new single, by Feb Cabahug, is titled “Hubad.”

These two bold words best describe the former “Miss Saigon” costar these days.

Gerald told reporters in a media conference that his expose on a personal experience, rape at age 15 by a musical director, has emboldened him to revise his image, reinvent himself. Now 33, the 2005 Pinoy Pop Superstar champion has stepped up to maturity by launching an advocacy, Courage Movement, to help victims of sexual abuse.

In line with this, Gerald is also turning a new leaf, music-wise.

His new song, Hubad, portrays him half-naked indeed in the poster, revealing his gym-buffed bod. The sound of Hubad itself may come as a surprise to those who have followed the singer throughout these 19 years as his rendition is filled with heavy breathing and sexual innuendo. It was as if A-1 child Gerald recorded the song after a multiple orgasm.

At the very least, the song is very sensual. If this were a movie, we could say Gerald has become a bold star.

By the way, one of Gerald’s new projects is a sexy movie called “Ayaw Matulog ng Gabi.”

“Through Hubad, I’m offering the public a new sound, a new look.”

Vic Sotto shares an important lesson he learned in show business that’s probably part of the secret to his longevity, about 50 years in the industry.

He said one should remain humble and never to step on other people just to make it.

During a Jan. 14 mediacon in line with his launch as a Sante Barley endorser, the media had been careful not to touch on the actor’s current controversy following a court gag order.

Nevertheless, in closing, as he wound up the afternoon session, Vic thanked media as he joked, “Thank you for not asking me about that issue. But, even if you did, I won’t answer, anyway.”

That’s as far as we got him to talk about said issue, stemming from a movie that has put him in a bad light.
