Duterte, other officials' satisfaction ratings decline, survey shows

A non-commissioned survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) from Dec. 12 to 18, 2024 revealed a decline in satisfaction ratings of key government officials, specifically Vice President Sara Duterte, Senate President Francis Escudero, Speaker Martin Romualdez, and Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo.

The results, released on Wednesday, Jan. 15, showed that 52 percent of respondents were satisfied with Vice President Duterte, while 31 percent were dissatisfied.

Escudero received a satisfaction rating of 61 percent and a dissatisfaction rating of 19 percent dissatisfied.

Romualdez scored 40 percent satisfaction and 31 percent dissatisfaction, while Gesmundo had a satisfaction rating of 38 percent and dissatisfaction of 24 percent.

The net satisfaction ratings, or the difference between the percentage of satisfied and dissatisfied respondents, were “moderate” +21 for Duterte, “good” +42 for Escudero, “neutral” +9 for Romualdez, and “moderate” +14 for Gesmundo.

Compared to September 2024, net satisfaction ratings for these officials have declined.

Duterte’s net satisfaction fell by six points, from a moderate +27; Escudero’s dropped by five points, from a good +47; Romualdez saw an 11-point decrease, from a moderate +20; and Gesmundo’s net satisfaction declined by nine points, from a moderate +23.

The SWS terminology for net satisfaction ratings is as follows: +70 and above, “excellent”; +50 to +69, “very good”; +30 to +49, “good”; +10 to +29, “moderate”; +9 to -9, “neutral”; -10 to -29, “poor”; -30 to -49, “bad”; -50 to -69, “very bad”;-70 and below, “execrable.”

The SWS survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews with 2,160 adults, aged 18 and above, nationwide: 1,080 in Balance Luzon, and 360 each in Metro Manila, the Visayas, and Mindanao.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s net satisfaction rating also dropped in December 2024.

SWS found that 51 percent of adult Filipinos were satisfied with the President’s performance, while 32 percent were dissatisfied, resulting in a net score of +19, classified as “moderate.”

This marks a significant decline from his previous rating of +32 in September 2024.
