Marcos’ net satisfaction rating drops by 13 points in December 2024 — SWS

Scores decline across all areas except in Balance Luzon

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s net satisfaction rating has dropped significantly in December 2024, based on the Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey results released on Wednesday, Jan. 15.

The nationwide non-commissioned poll, conducted from Dec. 12 to 18, found that 51 percent of adult Filipinos were satisfied with the President’s performance, while 32 percent were dissatisfied, resulting in a net score of +19 (percentage of satisfied minus percentage of dissatisfied), classified as “moderate.”

This is a significant decrease from the net rating of +32, categorized as “good,” in September 2024.

“Compared to September 2024, gross satisfaction with President Marcos fell from 58 percent, gross undecided hardly moved from 15 percent, and gross dissatisfaction rose from 26 percent,” SWS said in its report.

The SWS terminology for net satisfaction ratings is as follows: +70 and above, “excellent”; +50 to +69, “very good”; +30 to +49, “good”; +10 to +29, “moderate”; +9 to -9, “neutral”; -10 to -29, “poor”; -30 to -49, “bad”; -50 to -69, “very bad”;-70 and below, “execrable.”

Net rating falls in all areas except Balance Luzon

SWS said President Marcos’ net satisfaction rating was highest in Balance Luzon (+38), followed by Metro Manila (+20), the Visayas (+18), and Mindanao (-18) as of December.

Compared to September, net satisfaction with the President hardly changed in Balance Luzon (+39).

However, it fell by 34 points from +16 in Mindanao, 16 points from +36 in Metro Manila, and 13 points from +31 in the Visayas.

By locale, net satisfaction with President Marcos remained higher in rural areas (+26) than in urban areas (+13), although both are classified as moderate scores.

However, compared to September, the President’s net satisfaction rating fell by 12 points in both rural (from +38) and urban areas (from +25).

Satisfaction among men, women falls

SWS noted that President Marcos’ net satisfaction rating was moderate among both men (+21) and women (+18).

Compared to September, net satisfaction with the President fell by 11 points among men (from +32) and 13 points among women (from +31).

Across age groups, President Marcos’ net satisfaction rating was highest among those 55 years old and older (+36), followed by 45-54-year-olds (+13), 35-44-year-olds (+13), 18-24-year-olds (+9), and 25-34-year-olds (+8).

Compared to September, net satisfaction with the President fell by 34 points among 18-24-year-olds (from +43), 17 points among 45-54-year-olds (from +31), 16 points among 25-34-year-olds (from +24), and eight points among 35-44-year-olds (from +21).

Meanwhile, it fell slightly by four points among those 55 and older (from +40).

Scores fall across most educational groups

As of December, President Marcos’ net satisfaction rating was +18 among those with no formal education or some elementary education (non-elementary graduates), +29 among those who finished elementary or had some high school education (elementary graduates), +19 among those who finished junior high school or had some vocational schooling (junior high school graduates), +14 among those who attended some senior high school, finished senior high school, completed vocational school, or attended some college (some senior high school), and +4 among those who graduated from college or took post-graduate studies (college graduates).

Compared to September, the President’s net satisfaction rating fell by 35 points among non-elementary graduates (from +53), 27 points among college graduates (from +31), 15 points among those with some senior high school (from +29), and nine points among junior high school graduates (from +28).

However, the rating hardly changed among elementary graduates (+28).

The SWS survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews with 2,160 adults, aged 18 and above, nationwide: 1,080 in Balance Luzon, and 360 each in Metro Manila, the Visayas, and Mindanao.

The sampling error margins are ±2 percent for national percentages, ±3 percent in Balance Luzon, and ±5 percent each for Metro Manila, the Visayas, and Mindanao.
