As much as possible, rising actor Andres Muhlach pleads not to be compared with his father, the great Aga. By the way, Dad is currently hitting it big as the evil one in MMFF  hit, Uninvited.

Younger one is expressing a typical reaction from young people following in the footsteps of their accomplished elders.

True enough and good enough, Viva has assigned a mean guy but still lovable role for Andres in his second TV series, “Ang Mutya ng

Section E,” based on the phenomenal Wattpad title, written by Lara Flores, also known as Eatmore2behappy.

This makes Andres’ entry into mainstream showbiz quite different from that of his father’s, who made a killing through good boy roles from the very start of his career in the 1980s. Remember Bagets and those teen-happy romance films that firmly established Aga as the leading matinee idol of his time?

The phenomenal Wattpad title is made up of three books with a total of 348 million reads. Viva One’s adaptation of Book 1 will be equivalent to 16 episodes.

The role calls for Andres, as Mark Keifer Watson, to lead a gang of bully boys out to make life hard and torturous for leading lady,  Ashtine Olviga.

It happens that in the story, Jay-Jay, played by Ashtine, lands in the high school’s last section reserved only for either repeaters of kickouts from other schools or sections. She finds herself the only girl in the company of 16 rowdy boys.

Coming from a simple background, Ashtine provides the perfect match for showbiz-rooted Andres. Their pairing is built around the familiar loveteam principle, “Opposites attract.”  

Providing the third wheel to a teen love story about to brew between Andres and Ashtine is Rabin Angeles, cast as Keifer’s best friend.

Andre Yllana makes his presence felt in the series together with Axel Torres, Charles Law, Frost Sandoval, Kurt Delos Reyes, Ethan David, Keagan De Jesus, Martin Venegas, among others.

Completing the cast are Yayo Aguila, Katya Santos, Rommel Luna, Lander Vera Perez, and Nanette Inventor.

Directed by Theodore Boborol, Mutya premieres January 3 on Viva One.
