DOJ confirms request for Interpol's 'blue notice' vs Party-list Rep Zaldy Co
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla has given instructions to ask the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) to issue a Blue Notice against Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Elizaldy "Zaldy" S. Co to identify the location and activities of the legislator abroad.
The Interpol request is based on the criminal investigation of Co in the “anomalous” flood control projects, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said.
In its website, the Interpol said a Blue Notice is a request of member countries to “collect additional information about a person’s identity, location or activities in relation to a criminal investigation.”
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has recommended the criminal prosecution of Co, among other persons, in the flood control projects.
According to news reports, Co has left the United States and has been headed to Spain. His travel authority abroad has been cancelled by the House of Representatives.
Earlier, House Speaker Faustino "Bojie" Dy III had given an ultimatum to Co to return to the Philippines.
In a letter to Co, Dy gave the former until Monday, Sept. 29, 2025 to return to the country and face the allegations against him.
Dy warned Co that failure to comply “shall be construed as a refusal to subject yourself to the lawful processes of the House and will result in the initiation of appropriate disciplinary and legal actions".
