NBI arrests mother, rescues 5 minors from online sexual exploitation
A mother was arrested for allegedly engaging five minors in online child sexual exploitation activities in Quezon City, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said on Monday, Sept. 22.
In a statement, the NBI said its operatives from the Human Trafficking Division (HTRAD) conducted an entrapment operation against the mother “engaged in online sexual abuse of children.”
The arrest of the mother, whose name was not disclosed, also resulted in the rescue of five minor victims, it also said.
The arrested mother has been charged before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office with qualified trafficking in persons under Republic Act (RA) No. 9208, the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003, as amended.
The NBI said the operation arose from a case referral from the Royal Canadian Mountain Police (RCMP) through the Philippine Internet Crimes Against Children Center (PICACC).
It also said the referral stated that members of the New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) executed a search warrant that resulted in the arrest of a Canadian national at his residence.
The examination of the Canadian national's device showed that the arrested mother “was receiving payments to facilitate the online sexual abuse of her 12-year-old daughter,” the NBI said.
After surveillance, it said that the arrested mother was found actively offering minors to foreigners in exchange for money.
